Sermon Date: December 9, 1973
Rev. August Hauptman
Sermon Text: Luke 21:25-36

Dear Christian friends:

We know that winter is not far off when leaves start falling and the days are shorter. There's chill in the air! These are signs (proofs or warnings) that winter is near. Some we know when Spring is near (verses 29&30).

Jesus in our text gives us some signs to let us know that His coming in glory is near.

Signs Of His Coming In Glory

What are these signs (warnings)? There will be signs in nature, wars and rumors of wars, and signs in your body. He will come for you when you die, if not before.

How should we Christians feel when we see these things happening? Watch out! Don't give up hope and faith in Jesus and do like the unbelievers, "Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap". (Luke 21:34) They try to hide their fear by eating too much, drinking too much, and group sex, orgies, as many do today.

They worry, worry, too much all the time worrying about money, health and earthly things, "cares of this life". They have no time for prayer and church.

Fear and worry can lead you away from God and your Savior Jesus. Satan will tempt you to give up hope and faith in God. If you worry too much about money and troubles, sickness, old age and wars, you will lose faith in Jesus your Savior. You'll think God doesn't love you. "Many will be trapped", verse 34.

So Jesus says to "Watch and pray always that you may be strong enough to live through all these things that shall happen, and be able to stand before the Son of Man." (verse 36)

And in verse 28 He says, "When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, (have faith and hope) because your redemption is drawing near."

Christians should be happy when these terrible things happen on earth. That means the end of this here evil, sinful world and the beginning of a new and perfect world with God in glory!

Amen.
