August's Sermons

Church Period: Epiphany
Sermon Title: Worship Christ, Our New Born King!
Sermon Date: January 6, 1974
Rev. August Hauptman
Sermon Text: Matthew 2:1-11

Dear Christian friends:

Note: This is a basic outline of the sermon.

This is the story about the Wise Men who followed the star to worship the new born Christ Child. It is very precious and beautiful. The Wise Men are a good lesson for us to help us worship Jesus better.

We need to have faith like they had! They believed God's Word about the star. They believed God's Word in the Scriptures. (verses 4-6)

They had a wonderful faith. We can have faith like them. We have a clearer Word of God than they had: Both Prophecy and Fulfillment. God loves us and gives us his Holy Spirit.

The Wise Men endured hardships like perhaps one year to 18 months to come from the East to Bethlehem. (verse 16)

We should be happy to endure hard work, troubles and problems to worship. Our new church will give all of us a fine opportunity. God loves us and gives us strong faith to endure hard things to serve and worship.

We can have joy like they had. They rejoiced when the star stopped over the house where Jesus lived. (verse 10) They offered Him gifts. (verse 11) We can do the same when we come to church with faith and joy to sing and pray and praise Jesus, our Lord and Savior. We, too, should gladly offer Him gifts.

Jesus needed the gifts of the Wise Men to support the escape to Egypt. (verse 13) Jesus needs our gifts to help support His work today!

God, love us. Give us your Spirit! Help us to love You and worship You as the Wise Men of old! (Close by signing the TLH, No. 127, "As With Gladness Men Of Old")
