Sermon Text: Matthew 5:5

Dear Christian friends:

Blessed Are The Meek

Who are the meek? They are humble, shy and those who do not only think of themselves. Me,me, me, me first! Those who put Jesus first then others and finally themselves. Jesus, others, then yourself.

Jesus is the most perfect example. Matthew 11:29, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls."

Jesus always thought of God and His Father's will. "I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world." (John 9:4-5)

He said to Mary in the temple when he was twelve years of age, "Why were you searching for me?” he asked. "Didn't you know I had to be in my Father’s house?" (Luke 2:49 NIV)

Jesus also said in John 6:38, "For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me." Even though the Father's will was that He suffer and die the shameful death on the cross He obeyed. That is true meekness.

Jesus always thought of others, not Himself. He loved us and died for us. How do we show meekness to God? "So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls." (James 1:21)

Don't think that you know better than God's Word. We do this when we criticise the pastor who shows us God's Word or if we refuse to hear and study God's Word at home and church.

What are our duties as Christians: Helping the poor, giving support for the Church and world wide missions. If you criticise that or refuse to obey God's Word in that you are not meek.

Paul says in Philippians 2:3, "Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves." If we can only do this, we will have a very wonderful congregation. Quarrelling and boasting will stop. If you think all the other members are better than yourself, you will not be jealous. You will honor one another and cooperate with one another and not demand your own way or get angry or cross if you can't have your way.

What blessing does God promise the meek? Blessings and happiness and that the meek shall inherit the earth.

Father help us to be meek like Jesus so we can fully do your work.

Amen.
