Sermon Date: September 17, 1967
Rev. August Hauptman
Sermon Text: Luke 12:54-57

Dear Christian friends:

Wise King Solomon wrote that there is a time or season for every purpose on earth: "A time to be born and a time to to die, a time to plant and a time to harvest, a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to keep silent and a time to speak; a time of war and a time of peace etc."

Also in God's plan for His Kingdom or Church there are times or seasons. He began by choosing Abraham to save the world by Jews. Now we are nearing the last times on earth. We should know this.

What Time Is It?

That's a good question for our physical life. In our daily life we need to wake up and get ready for what will soon happen. 1. A rain storm. 2. Or hot weather. We usually know what will happen by certain signs. West wind meant rain. South wind meant heat. Here in Minnesota a north wind means cold or snow.

We usually know what time it is for our daily life and we hurry and get ready. That's also a good question for our spiritual life also. The Jews were not awake to the time.

Proof of God's Kingdom were many. Jesus' miracles, and prophecies fulfilled. By this they should know that the promised Savior was now here.

They continued to act like they had no proof and no hints. They asked, "How can we know if you are the promised One of God? Tell us plainly." Jesus says, "You hypocrites! You have already heard and seen plenty of proof about Me. You don't want to believe! You don't want to change and improve. You love darkness rather than light because your deeds are evil."

Are we today any better than the Jews of Jesus' time? We have much more proof of Jesus; that He is the Son of God and only Savior for sinners. Both the Old and New Testament prophecies have almost all been fulfilled. Last June during the Israel, Arab war we saw Luke 21:24 fulfilled before our eyes when the Israeli soldiers occupied old Jerusalem. Jesus says that is a sure sign or proof of His second coming in glory to judge.

By this and other signs we should know that the end of the world is very near. Jesus could come today.

Do you know that it is time for Jesus to come? Are you expecting Him with eagerness and joy? Are you busy doing your Christian duties because you know your Lord will come any time now?

Some are awake and serving and doing. Some know what time it is. Do you? Do you know that it is late and that you don't have much time left?

Some say, "Later I will serve Jesus. Next year I will pledge and support missions. This year I must buy a new car or build a new garage or buy new furniture. Maybe next year I will pledge 10% and really work hard for Jesus. Next month I will visit my friend and talk to him about Jesus. I'm too busy this month.

You know better than that. If you talk like that you are a hypocrite. You do not really believe in Jesus. You do not really love Him. You are not yet His friend. If you are His friend, you will know what time it is and expect Him to come at any time.

Although the days are evil, you will be glad and try to do your duty as His servants so that when He comes again He will find you doing your duty not wasting your life on things that do not serve Jesus.

May God help us each one to know what time it is.

Amen.
