Sermon Title: Relatives Of Christ!
Sermon Date: August 4, 1963
Rev. August Hauptman
Sermon Text: Matthew 12:46-50

Dear Christian friends:

It's a wonderful thing to be the brother, sister or mother of a king. Especially a great King. Well that is what you are or can be today. You can be related to the King of Kings. Don't let your humble relationship to this King mislead you today. Think of how the Brothers and Sisters of Christ will shine on the last day and thank God that we are relatives of Christ.

Relatives Of Christ!

When the people spoke of his mother and brothers wanting to speak to Jesus they were speaking of an earthly relationship through birth and Jesus quickly corrected them. He said, "Who is my mother?" "Who is my Brother?" This must of shocked the people. You can imagine the people saying to themselves, "What kind of a foolish question is that? Doesn't this great man know his own Family?

Jesus surely shocked them but most importantly he had their attention and then he said, "behold my mother and my brethren" and he pointed to the disciples. Showing a very simple truth. And said, "For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister and mother."

Jesus told them and showed them that they were still of the earth and thinking of earthly things. And he was of heaven speaking of spiritual things. Telling us that we are all related through him to the Father in heaven. We all say we are brothers and sisters of Jesus, are we? Do we do the will of God? Look around you and see. It's God's will that all be saved and He sent his only son to save us. He asks us to tell the world about the good news. How many people come to church every Sunday to hear it?

We should all take notice of who is not in church not who came to church. Then we should go see the people who were not here and tell them about God's message. I remember a few years back my oldest girl told me she would like a new baby brother or sister and I told her she would have one pretty soon.

While my wife was expecting she would bother me all the time asking me, "daddy when am I going to have a new brother or sister to play with?" She was more expected then me. I imagine some of you have gone through the same thing. If you haven't you should be going through that now as Jesus is asking you, "when will I have a new brother or sister?" He wants us to go out and tell others about him. He wants us to help his spiritual family to grow.

As this family grows he wants us all to help keep it together by forgiving one another as we ask him to forgive us and to work together so we will all reach the final goal, heaven. Remember our lesson from 1st Thessalonians 2:19-20, "For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? For ye are our glory and joy." Each one we bring to Jesus is to our glory and Joy. They will be part of our treasure in heaven. Don't go there broke.

May the Lord give us strength to be good Brothers and Sisters of Jesus, to do the will of God bringing many new relatives to Jesus so we may always give glory to our Risen Savior.

Amen.
