Dear Christian friends:
What do you know about God? What is He like? Many answer,
"I don't know. He is too great, too deep for me. I can't
understand Him. I'm afraid of Him." Do you love God? Does
He love you? Many say yes, but they are not sure.
Yes God is very great and high and far above our knowledge
and understanding. We will never know everything about Him
in this life. Even in heaven we will never fully know and
understand His greatness and goodness. But we need to know
some things or we can't love:
Our Wonderful God
The Bible teaches there is One God. "Hear, O Israel: The
Lord our God is one Lord." (Deuteronomy 6:4-15) Hindus
have many Gods and Greek mythology also as well as many
others.
Yet three persons in this One God, Father, Son and Holy
Ghost. Jesus said, "I and my Father are one." (John 10:30)
"That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour
the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not
the Father which hath sent him.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word,
and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life,
and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from
death unto life." (John 5:23-24)
The Anthanasian Creed explains it very beautifully:
"Father eternal, Son eternal, Holy Spirit eternal; and
yet They are not three Eternals but one Eternal." The
Father is almighty, the Son is almighty, and the Holy
Spirit is almighty. Analogies in nature to the Trinity:
The Sun, Orbit, light and heat yet one sun. Man, Body,
mind and spirit, yet one Man.
So why bother teaching about the Trinity, such a hard
and deep teaching? Some think it makes no difference
Bishop Pike, and others. But if we give up that teaching
we also lose Jesus Christ our Savior. You cannot have
the right faith in Jesus Christ if you deny the Holy
Trinity. Our Savior must be God or we can't be saved.
Why did the Jews refuse to believe in Jesus? He said
He was the Son of God, that He came from heaven,
and lived before Abraham etc.
Why let the deep teaching of the Trinity bother us?
There are many other things about God we can't understand.
Eternal, omnipresent, omnipotent. Infinite like space.
There are many things in nature we can't understand also.
The secret of life, cancer, etc. Yet we believe it and
use it. We should expect God to be greater than ourselves
or He would be a very poor God.
Let us humble ourselves before Him and His Holy Word and
like children believe what He says and teaches although
we cannot fully understand it.
Let us say with reverence and praise like Paul,
"O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge
of God!
For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things:
to whom be glory for ever. Amen." (Romans 11:33,36)
